Sadly, this turtle was headed away from water

It’s always sad to see misguided wildlife in our communities. Here’s a Florida softshell turtle as it crossed a neighborhood road on May 19, 2024. What you cannot see is that it is headed away from a pond (its natural habitat) and off to a land of cars, no water and hot pavement. Sadly, our intrusion on nature for homes and commercial sites is bringing more and more scenes such as this one. I got the shot while driving near our home here in Naples, Fla.
