Boo! Halloween season 2023: ‘Friday the 13th’ is a legend in horror

Boo! We’re in the countdown to Halloween 2023! Today on Oct. 29, we’re in the home stretch to Halloween. So, today we have the both iconic and legendary slasher flick “Friday the 13th.” Here is the original of the most profitable franchise in horror movie history. The interesting thing is that “Jason” became a household name in horror with this one, but he didn’t kill anyone!

Friday the 13th” is the story of a summer camp opening again after a tragedy from years past. You know something’s afoot from the beginning, but it takes some time to sort out the backstory, which shows the primary motivation for the story.

It would become (or an extension of) horror movies where college kids (or teenagers) are targeted. In “Friday the 13th” it’s because of a problem the summer camp had years ago, but the motive isn’t totally fleshed out (pun intended) until the end of the film.

The actual identity of the killer in “Friday the 13th” becomes the answer to a trivia question in the even-better slasher flick “Scream,” but you’ll be kept in the dark not because of a clever screenplay, but because it takes until the end to solve the mystery.

Friday the 13th” gives you an early slice of bacon – that is, here is Kevin Bacon in his fifth film after his debut in “National Lampoon’s Animal House” – and the film would become a typical slasher movie with the victims finding themselves headed unheeded into peril. Yet, it is iconic due to the non-killer’s name: “Jason.”

You won’t have any trouble finding “Friday the 13th” at Halloween season. So, check out your streaming services … to watch a horror classic. I guarantee you will enjoy them!
