Watch It! Robert De Niro in “Dirty Grandpa” isn’t like any De Niro you ever saw. No, it’s not violence (he’s done a whole lot of that); no, it’s not drama (he’s done a lot of that); and no, it’s not light comedy (he’s done very little of that). What you will say in the first 40 minutes of “Dirty Grandpa” is say, “OMG! Did he say that?” “Dirty Grandpa” is the story of a grandfather who, after the passing of his wife, asks his grandson, played nicely by Zac Efron, to drive him from his home in Georgia to Boca Raton in south Florida. Now, the film is loaded and is about to fire! “Dirty Grandpa,” which shouldn’t be confused a similar-titled film from Johnny Knoxville, is quite wonderful puerile comedy. Is it great? No, but such a film doesn’t need to be one. In any case … Watch It!
