U.S. flags at half-staff in memory of the Atlanta murder victims

In case you haven’t noticed, U.S. flags are being flown at half-staff until Monday, March 22, 2021, in memory of the victims of the recent murders in Atlanta. I got this shot of the half-staff flags at the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library on March 20. There is a protocol for ordering flags to be flown at half-staff. BTW: Half-staff means a flag halfway on a flagpole on land. “Half-mast” is on a ship. There is a big difference. Unless you’re at sea or at dock, you want the flag at half-staff. Aboard? Go half-mast. PS: Until I examined this image closely, I didn’t notice that I caught an airplane in flight! Look in the upper right quadrant for it! Click here for the best website for flag protocols … and you can click here to sign up for email reminders when there is an order to fly flags at half-staff … (Remember: Click on the small image for a bigger version – then click on that one for the full-size photo.)
