AI, voice recognition makes closed captioning continue to project stupidity

The sheer ignorance of how voice recognition and artificial intelligence makes closed captioning the butt of eternal jokes for the stupidity it manages to spew by mangling the English language just never ceases to be amusing for myself. Here’s a prime example from “Dragnet” (“The Senior Citizen,” season 2 – episode 7) as the character actually says, “hock shops” (that being a pawn shop). However, the great stupid, today’s closed captioning, has it as “hawk” shops. Really? Do they offer peregrine falcons for sale? Of course not. It’s just closed captioning stupidity. I got this shot on Oct. 17, 2023, off our home big screen here in Naples, Fla.
