A year after its closing, not much left on the beach side of the former Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club

All I could think was “Wow!” when I saw where the main part of the Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club used to be on Gulf Shore Boulevard North here in Naples, Fla., on July 23, 2022. I hadn’t been past the site since the demolition began and it was still somewhat of a shock to see most of it in rubble (you can’t see in this photo, but only part of one building is still standing) after its closing just over a year ago. The site will be reborn as the Naples Beach Club and its history will be laid to rest. Controversy followed the redevelopment plans, mostly because developers are not keeping the entire 18-hole golf course by trimming it by eight holes to make room for more expensive housing. Sigh.
