Try this flick … “All That Jazz” from director Bob Fosse that was nominated for nine Oscars and won four. Here’s about as great an autobiography as you’ll find … but it’s not a real autobiography. “All That Jazz” is Fosse’s telling of his life story that he created while recovering from a heart attack. While not true-true, the spirit of the legendary director (he’s the only person to win an Oscar, a Tony and an Emmy in the same year – 1973), “All That Jazz” is the musical and visual score to the man’s life. Although I’m no fan of this type of film, “All That Jazz” is simply … well, pick your word: Superb, superlative, sensational or perfect. Even the casting of a post-“Jaws” Roy Scheider as “Joe Gideon” (Fosse) was inspired. I’m sure you saw it, so go watch it again!
So, I’m doing a sometimes recommendation of a movie or TV show … and they’re all movies or TV shows that I’ve reviewed on this blog.
